David Lazer, co-founder of the firm, is a partner in and co-chairs the firm's Litigation practice group. He has been an active trial and appellate lawyer for more than 28 years in the State and Federal Courts. Mr. Lazer has conducted more than 70 trials to verdict. He has argued before the New York Court of Appeals, the Appellate Division, First and Second Departments, and the Appellate Term. In addition to his trial and appellate work, Mr. Lazer has represented clients in numerous arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association and has also participated in Alternative Dispute Resolution mediations on behalf of clients.
With an emphasis on commercial litigation, Mr. Lazer has litigated cases ranging from corporate matters, shareholder claims, partnership disputes, breach of contract, fraud and unfair competition. In addition, he has handled virtually all types of real estate litigation including zoning, landlord-tenant, specific performance and down payment recovery, property border disputes and adverse possession. Mr. Lazer has diverse criminal law experience, beginning as an Assistant District Attorney from 1981 to 1985. He has handled trials ranging from homicide, white collar and sex crimes, to shoplifting and traffic matters. He has also briefed and argued numerous criminal appeals in the appellate courts.
Mr. Lazer is admitted to practice in the State of New York, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He has been an instructor at the Hofstra University School of Law National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) program for the past 20 years and serves five or six times a year as an arbitrator in the Suffolk County Third District Court.
Mr. Lazer is a graduate of Boston University (B.A., 1976) and the Hofstra University School of Law (J.D., 1980) where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence. He is co-author of "What Does a Real Estate Broker Have to do to Earn a Commission", Journal of the Suffolk County Academy of Law, Volume 5, 1988, and is a frequent lecturer and panelist at Continuing Legal Education courses and seminars.
